2024 N-BA Presidential Cocktail

The Nigeria-Britain Association hosted its 2024 Presidential Cocktail on the 25th of July at the residence of the British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos. The event facilitated productive discussions, idea exchanges, and potential collaborations, strengthening the Nigeria-UK relationship.

The President of the Association, Mr. Sola Oyetayo, presented the Association’s vision for the year, themed ‘The Big I.D.E.A – A New Chapter.’ He honoured the late Pa Akintola Williams, recognised the contributions of Past Presidents, and emphasised the importance of building relationships with key partners. He introduced the forthcoming N-BA Secretariat project.

The British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Johnny Baxter, highlighted the robust historical and evolving connections between Nigeria and the UK. He congratulated the N-BA President, Mr. Sola Oyetayo on his re-election and underscored the significance of ties in education, trade, and culture. Mr. Baxter noted, “Tonight is a testament to the deep bonds we share between the UK and Nigeria. Our connection is not just historical but dynamic, involving trade, education, and cultural exchange. We are committed to strengthening this relationship and supporting the economic growth of Nigeria.”

The Patron of the N-BA Chief Emeka Anyaoku GCON, GCVO, CFR, emphasised the Association’s role in enhancing Nigeria-UK relations. He shared personal anecdotes about the extensive links in education, trade, and culture, and paid tribute to his predecessor, Mr. Akintola Williams.

The Special Adviser on Policy and Legal Services to the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Jibike Teniola, praised the N-BA for its role in cultural exchange and business partnerships. She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to advancing Nigerian tourism and infrastructure, reflecting the Minister’s vision of showcasing Nigeria’s diverse heritage.

The Honourable Commissioner of Commerce for Lagos State, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medem, delivered a goodwill message from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. She highlighted the strong partnership between Lagos State and the N-BA, she commended the Association’s cultural and educational initiatives, and affirmed the state’s support for sustainable development.

The 2024 Presidential Cocktail stood as a testament to the N-BA’s dedication to fostering meaningful collaborations, strengthening diplomatic ties, and promoting investments between Nigeria and Britain. As the Association steps into a new chapter, the event served as a beacon of the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Present at the event were distinguished guests, including the Patron of the Association – Chief Emeka Anyaoku, GCON, GCVO, CFR, former Commonwealth Secretary General; Vice patrons of the Association – Chief Olabintan Famutimi, the British Deputy High Commissioner – Mr. Johnny Baxter, Representative of the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Special Adviser on policy and legal Services to the Minister of Tourism – Ms. Jibike Teniola, Representative of the Lagos State Gover and Honourable Commissioner of Commerce, Lagos State – Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medem, Special Adviser to the Governor of Ogun State on Investment – Mrs. Sola Arobieke. Notable partners for the evening included British Deputy High Commissioner, Scib Nigeria & Co Limited, NEM Insurance Plc, and Sola Oyetayo & Co. Also in attendance were diplomats, key government officials from both Nigeria and Britain, leaders of prominent multinational and national businesses operating in Nigeria, alongside members of the Association.
